Spurs’ center-back made an impressive sprint to help the visitors break through Manchester United‘s defense early on.
The excitement for Manchester United quickly faded when, just three minutes into the match, they conceded a goal. A long ball from Marcus Rashford was intercepted by Micky van de Ven, who then turned into a sprinter, dribbling past several opponents and entering the penalty area before delivering a precise cross to Brennan Johnson, who scored to open the scoring.
That goal allowed Spurs to dominate the match, and they added two more in the second half, leaving Old Trafford in despair. Speaking about his assist, Van de Ven said:
“I intercepted the ball from the opponent and saw the space, I looked up and thought I would push forward.
As I entered the penalty area, I knew Brennan was always moving toward the far post, so I thought, ‘I’ll deliver a cross between the goalkeeper and the defender.’ And to be honest, I didn’t even see the goal because I was falling at that moment! But I heard the away fans celebrating.”
