Centre-back Virgil van Dijk recently revealed that he is unsure whether he will continue playing for Liverpool next season. However, the Dutch player also confirmed that he and the club are negotiating the possibility of signing a new contract.
Van Dijk has been a key figure for the “Reds” for many years. His current contract with the Merseyside club is set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season. Like Mohamed Salah and right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, if Van Dijk does not extend his contract, he will be free to leave Anfield next summer.
In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, when asked about his future, Van Dijk cautiously responded: “At the moment, I don’t have any clear plans for the future. The only thing I can tell you is that the contract negotiations between me and Liverpool are underway. We’ll just have to wait and see how things unfold.”
“For now, I am fully focused on Liverpool. My main goal is to win every match, and everything else is secondary.”
“Right now, I feel good both physically and mentally. This gives me joy when playing, and I don’t want to be distracted by anything unrelated to the journey of achieving success with Liverpool,” concluded the 33-year-old centre-back, who wears the number 4 shirt for Liverpool.
