Ten Hag: ‘Without Fernandes’s Red Card, MU Could Have Come Back’

Erik ten Hag has made notable comments regarding Bruno Fernandes’s red card during Manchester United‘s 0-3 defeat to Tottenham on September 29.

Fernandes was deemed responsible for the loss after a slip led him to foul James Maddison, prompting the referee to issue a straight red card.

Reflecting on the incident, Ten Hag stated, “I don’t think that situation warranted a red card. Should VAR have intervened? I prefer not to judge and comment. The referee made his decision, and I have a different view on that play.”

He emphasized, “We could have turned the match around. We had chances with Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee. But the red card changed the game. I truly believe we had opportunities before that, and with the score at 1-0, we could have made a comeback. Clearly, the red card had a significant impact on the match.”

Fernandes will serve a three-match suspension due to the red card.
