Real Madrid is currently facing a series of challenges, not only witnessing Vinicius miss out on the Ballon d’Or title but also risking punishment due to acts of racism.
Following their heavy 0-4 loss to Barcelona in the El Clasico, Real Madrid finds itself in a “double blow” situation. According to Spanish media, after the match, several videos began circulating on social media, capturing racist insults directed at Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, who scored the goal to make it 3-0 in the dominant 4-0 win for Barca.
In one clip, a Real Madrid fan can be heard calling Yamal a “damn black.” Another video shows a fan insulting Yamal with the term “damn monkey,” while a third video features a fan mocking Yamal, saying he should go “sell tissues at traffic lights” as Yamal celebrated his goal in the 77th minute.
Besides Yamal, Raphinha and Ansu Fati were also targets of racial slurs from some Real Madrid fans throughout the match. Real Madrid responded promptly, issuing a statement strongly condemning any acts of racism, discrimination, or violence in football and sports. They also announced an investigation to identify the individuals responsible for these disgraceful insults and stated that strict measures would be taken to address the incident.
Ironically, Real Madrid had previously seen their star Vinicius subjected to racial abuse from opposing fans. However, now, the team of a player often cast as a victim—Vinicius—witnesses their own fans directing harsh words at Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Fati. The Spanish Football Federation has also intervened and is reviewing the incident, possibly preparing to impose strict disciplinary action as a deterrent.
