MU sends scouts to assess Gyokeres

MU Shows Strong Intent in Pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon

Manchester United appears to be serious about their pursuit of striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon.

The Sun reports that the Red Devils sent scout Sergio Souza to Stockholm to watch Gyokeres’ performance in the recent Nations League match between Sweden and Slovakia.

The 26-year-old forward continued to prove his worth by scoring the opening goal in the 3rd minute, helping Sweden secure a 2-1 win. Gyokeres capitalized on a through ball from Alexander Isak, sprinted forward, and finished with a clinical angled shot, beating goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

This was Gyokeres’ 5th goal in the Nations League, further boosting his already established reputation at Sporting Lisbon. This season, Gyokeres is on track to surpass his impressive 43-goal tally from last season, having scored 23 goals in just 16 matches, including 16 goals in Primeira Liga – double the amount of any other player in the competition. Additionally, Gyokeres has scored 5 goals in the Champions League from just 4 games.

Gyokeres’ outstanding form has not only attracted Manchester United but also caught the attention of other top European clubs. PSG has reportedly contacted Gyokeres’ representatives, while Bayern could also join the race if they decide to sell Harry Kane in the summer of 2025.

United hopes that the presence of Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford will be a key factor in successfully signing Gyokeres. However, the Swedish striker remains cautious when discussing a potential move to Manchester.

“Ruben probably already has a few strikers there (at MU), so we’ll see. No, he hasn’t asked me to join MU. It’s nice, but I’m not putting too much expectation on it because there’s nothing concrete yet,” Gyokeres said.

Currently, Gyokeres still has a contract with Sporting Lisbon until 2028.
