Marcus Rashford seems to be entering another difficult season. After reaching his peak in the 2022/23 season with 30 goals, helping MU win the Carabao Cup and return to the Champions League, he is now struggling.
Rashford was inconsistent last season and seems to be stuck in a rut this season. Reducing his £325,000-a-week salary would be a wise move for MU if PSG were to make an offer, but MU has declined the proposal and continues to support Rashford, who appears to have reached his development limits.
Rashford has even been given extra training sessions with legend Ruud van Nistelrooy to improve his skills, but there is no clear evidence that these efforts are effective. In the loss to Brighton, he was caught offside twice and had a goal disallowed for moving too early.
Alan Shearer criticized Rashford for his lack of spatial awareness and skills. Rashford has not been named in the England squad for EURO 2024, and his chances of returning to the national team are slim.
Rashford needs to prove the doubters wrong rather than playing the victim. Despite early praise, the harsh reality is that he is not, and may never be, a world-class player. MU continues to stick with Rashford, but if the team fails to finish in the top 4 and Rashford continues to underperform, changes may be made. For now, Rashford is still protected, but if he does not improve, MU may continue to falter with him in the lineup.
