How dangerous is Mohamed Salah at the age of 32?

Age is just a number for Mohamed Salah. Statistics indicate that the Liverpool forward is having an even more impressive season than in his younger days.

In his first 10 Premier League games, Salah scored and assisted in eight of them. With seven goals and five assists in the opening 10 games of England’s top league this season, the 32-year-old forward heads into the clash with Aston Villa in top form.

Salah has always been the best difference-maker under Jurgen Klopp. However, the arrival of Arne Slot seems to have provided an even greater boost for the Egyptian star.

His stunning left-footed strike against Brighton last weekend marked the 48th time Salah scored the decisive goal to secure a Liverpool win in the Premier League. Salah’s ruthless finishing ability strikes fear into his opponents.

Statistics show that Salah has converted 23.33% of his chances into goals this season. For big chances, his conversion rate reaches an impressive 54.55%. To compare, in the previous four seasons, Salah’s average conversion rate was only 16.25% for regular chances and 46.53% for big chances.

His enduring physical fitness has been key to maintaining peak performance. In seven seasons with Liverpool, the Egyptian star has never played fewer than 32 games per season. Staying free from serious injuries has also contributed to his remarkable consistency.

Liverpool can dream of a championship with Salah leading the way

At 32, Salah may not be as fast as before, with a maximum speed of just 33.7 km/h in the 2024/25 Premier League season—the lowest in the past five seasons. Yet, remarkably, he has increased his sprint frequency to an average of 18.9 times per game, compared to 16.3 last season. It seems Salah has found new energy and motivation under manager Arne Slot.

The Dutch coach doesn’t employ the intense pressing style of Klopp, but Liverpool’s more controlled approach hasn’t hindered Salah.

The Egyptian remains highly dangerous in fast, direct counterattacks, showcasing his intelligence in setting up perfect scoring chances for his teammates. In the match against Chelsea in Round 8, Salah delivered a cross that bypassed the entire defense, allowing Curtis Jones to secure a 2-1 win. Arne Slot called it a “world-class pass.”

One standout statistic: Salah leads the Premier League in touches inside the opposition box this season, with 96 touches. Following him are Bernardo Silva (81), Erling Haaland (79), Bukayo Saka (76), and Brennan Johnson (74). Among them, only Haaland is a true center forward, highlighting the tactical flexibility of Premier League giants.

Not only does Salah top the league in touches in the box, but he also leads in total goals and assists (12), ranks second in shots on target (20), and third in expected goals (5.79). Clearly, the 32-year-old is still playing at an elite level.
