Forward Kai Havertz had to leave the field with a bloodied face in the final minutes of Arsenal’s 0-1 loss to Inter Milan in the Champions League.
The German star collided violently with an Inter Milan player, causing blood to stream down his face. At the time, Arsenal was desperately trying to find a late equalizer against the Italian side, with Havertz diving in to head the ball inside the box.
However, Inter Milan defender Yann Aurel Bisseck was equally determined to clear the ball, leading to a strong head-to-head clash in the aerial duel.
As a result, Havertz suffered a more severe injury, with Bisseck’s head making direct contact with Havertz’s eye. Arsenal’s medical team quickly rushed onto the field to treat Havertz as blood continued to flow from his face.
In the end, manager Mikel Arteta had no choice but to substitute Havertz for Martin Odegaard, marking the Norwegian midfielder’s return after being sidelined with an ankle injury. This was seen as a “silver lining” for Arsenal amidst the misfortune.
When asked about Havertz’s condition, Arteta briefly said: “Kai has a big cut, and we hope he will be fine to play by the weekend.” The substitution of Havertz undoubtedly concerned Arteta, as the former Leverkusen star had made a positive start to the season, scoring 7 goals in 15 appearances across all competitions.
Ultimately, Arsenal couldn’t find a way to equalize against Inter Milan and accepted a 0-1 defeat in Italy.
