The new signing from Manchester United has significantly influenced Napoli’s playing style.
In the recent clash against Juventus, Napoli shifted their tactical formation from the usual 5-2-3 to 4-3-3.
Media reports suggest that coach Antonio Conte needed to make adjustments based on the current squad situation. After the match, the Italian strategist explained how he implemented the tactical change.
“This idea came to me because on the last day of the transfer window, we signed McTominay and Gilmour, along with bringing Folorunsho back into the squad. The midfield then became quite strong, and we had to maximize our advantage,” Conte told DAZN.
“We started applying the new tactics last week against Cagliari, alternating between systems, and the 3-4-2-1 will be useful, but I also focused on implementing 4-3-3.
This formation suits Napoli; they can meet the demands. I must say I was a bit concerned about our defensive capabilities with this approach, but the players did very well.”
