Arsenal targets the “new Messi”

British media report that Arsenal’s management is planning to strengthen their midfield and has identified Real Madrid’s young midfielder Arda Güler as a target.

Güler, a left-footed Turkish player, can operate both as an attacking midfielder and a winger. Thanks to his exceptional talent, he has been dubbed the “new Messi” despite being only 19 years old.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has praised Güler’s playing style, stating that it aligns well with the North London club’s system. As a result, he has proposed that Arsenal’s management approach Real Madrid to negotiate a loan deal for the player, who came through Fenerbahce’s youth academy.

Arteta hopes that Güler will follow in the footsteps of Martin Ødegaard, a former Real Madrid player who flourished after moving to Arsenal. Odegaard also spent time on loan before being permanently signed by the North London club from Real Madrid.

According to Sport, Güler is currently unhappy at Real Madrid due to limited opportunities under coach Carlo Ancelotti. Last season, he made only 12 appearances, and this season, he has played in less than half of Real Madrid’s matches. Statistics reveal that Ancelotti has used Güler in just 17.12% of the team’s total playing time, amounting to 226 minutes in the 2024/25 La Liga season. This places him 17th on the list of Real Madrid players with the most minutes played.
