Arsenal Abandons €50 Million Pursuit

According to Give Me Sport, Mikel Arteta feels he has sufficient attacking options to pursue silverware.

The central narrative of Arsenal‘s summer transfer window in 2024 revolved around the need to sign a new striker, a consideration that Arteta had been weighing for some time. The Gunners were linked with several high-profile names such as Viktor Gyokeres, Alexander Isak, and Victor Osimhen, but they primarily focused on securing Benjamin Sesko.

Give Me Sport reports that Arsenal no longer wishes to revisit their interest in Sesko in future transfer windows. The Gunners had approached the Slovenian forward during the summer of 2024, but Arteta does not feel that a traditional striker is necessary for his system.

Although Arsenal explored the possibility of signing Sesko, the forward remained with RB Leipzig. This might be due to Arteta’s belief that Sesko was not a guaranteed starter in his tactical setup, with Kai Havertz being the central forward expected to start.

Arteta’s decision seems to have been validated, as both Havertz and Leandro Trossard, who were given opportunities, have found the net. Additionally, Arsenal has successfully loaned Raheem Sterling and continues to have promising attacking talents such as Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Gabriel Jesus in their squad.
