“A Great Player with a Lucrative Contract at Man Utd but Not Performing Well”

In a discussion on the podcast The Rest Is Football, former striker Alan Shearer offered his views on Marcus Rashford following Manchester United’s win against Southampton.

Shearer commented:

“Rashford sets very high standards for himself, you know? Rashford is a very good player – he’s got a lucrative contract at Manchester United and hasn’t been performing as well as he could, or as he has in the past. And when that happens – at a top football club, when you are a big name, you will face criticism.”

“But Rashford won’t be criticized for performances like the one against Southampton. He came back to help in defense, ran all over the pitch, engaged with the opponents, and scored.”

“Rashford really looked like a good player. Now, he needs to do that for the rest of the season.”

“It’s not just experts criticizing Rashford. From the same starting point a few years ago, there are other players who have surpassed Rashford. There’s no doubt about Rashford’s talent, but he needs to showcase it consistently.”

“That has to happen week in and week out, not just in the game against Southampton.”
