A former MU player almost got into a scuffle with Casemiro

Former MU midfielder Shola Shoretire had an unpleasant experience when he faced his old club. Not only did he fail to help PAOK avoid a 0-2 defeat to the Red Devils, but the 20-year-old English player also nearly got into a scuffle with Casemiro.

In the match between PAOK and MU in the 4th round of the 2024/25 Europa League qualification, Shoretire only came on in the 84th minute to replace Taison, with PAOK already trailing 0-2 at Old Trafford and having little hope of turning the game around.

The situation wouldn’t have been noteworthy if Shoretire hadn’t made a late tackle on Casemiro in the third minute of injury time. After falling to the ground and visibly in pain, the Brazilian midfielder of MU quickly got up and shouted angrily at Shoretire. Casemiro’s harsh reaction created a tense atmosphere on the pitch. Had Mason Mount and referee Radu Petrescu not intervened in time to separate Shoretire and Casemiro, the two might have clashed.

Interestingly, when the final whistle blew, Shoretire proactively went to congratulate his former MU teammates. When he shook hands with Lisandro Martinez, the Argentine center-back immediately pulled him toward Casemiro to call for a truce.

Shoretire, who trained at Newcastle, Sunderland, and Man City, joined MU’s youth team in 2013. After three years with MU’s first team, he joined PAOK this summer on a free transfer and signed a contract until 2028.
