MU Suffers Heavy Loss, Paul Scholes Questions £43 Million Signing

Paul Scholes expressed skepticism about Manchester United‘s signing of Matthijs de Ligt after their 0-3 defeat to Tottenham.

The dismal start to MU’s 2024/2025 season continued at Old Trafford, with Brennan Johnson breaking the deadlock just three minutes in. Bruno Fernandes received a straight red card for a reckless challenge on James Maddison in the 42nd minute, and things worsened for Man United as Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke added two more goals in the second half.

Former player Scholes stated that De Ligt, the £43 million signing, did not improve the situation compared to Harry Maguire: “When you bring in these players, you expect them to be much better than the ones you already have. I don’t see anyone coming in who can make a significant difference.”

“De Ligt came in to replace Maguire, but there’s no noticeable difference there.”

“We need to stop listening to excuses, get onto the training ground, and find the best way to play. Let’s figure something out and show us something!”
