Neville: “Liverpool Will Not Win the Premier League”

In comments on The Overlap, former player Gary Neville has shared his predictions for the current Premier League season.

Despite not making significant signings in the recent summer transfer window, spending just over €50 million on two new players, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa, Liverpool, under new head coach Arne Slot, has shown impressive form in their first five Premier League matches.

The Reds have won 4 out of 5 matches, earning 12 points, and currently sit in second place in the standings, just 1 point behind defending champions Manchester City. Additionally, in other competitions such as the Champions League and Carabao Cup, the Anfield side has secured notable victories against AC Milan and West Ham United.

However, despite their strong performance, Slot’s team has failed to convince Manchester United legend Neville. In a recent conversation on The Overlap, when asked if the Merseyside club would clinch the Premier League title this season, the 49-year-old former defender replied decisively: “They cannot win it.”

Earlier, speaking on the Stick to Football podcast last month, Neville expressed similar skepticism towards Liverpool.

“We should look to Arsenal and Manchester City because they have the quality to claim the top spot,” Neville stated.

This weekend, Liverpool will travel to face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the sixth round of the Premier League, and Neville also offered his prediction for this match.

“I think Liverpool will win 2-1. The score will be 1-1 at halftime, but Liverpool will secure a late victory,” Neville commented.
