Mohamed Salah surprised fans by unexpectedly addressing his contract situation after Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Salah was asked by former Liverpool player Daniel Sturridge about his “feelings” after the summer.
“I had a great summer,” Salah shared.
“I had a lot of time to think and try to focus on the positive.
“As you know, this is my last year with the club. I just want to enjoy it. I don’t want to think about it, but I feel free to play, and let’s see what happens next year.”
Salah’s mention of his contract situation has raised some concern among Liverpool fans. However, Salah seemed quite relaxed in addressing these questions, much like how he enjoyed the recent big match.
Salah scored once and provided two assists in the game. After just three Premier League matches, he has already accumulated three goals and three assists.
Given Salah’s inspired and determined play, it seems that the contract situation isn’t causing immediate concern for Liverpool and its fans.
If Salah continues to play with focus and freedom, why complicate things with contract negotiations at this stage?
Journalist Dean Jones asked Salah if this could be his last season or possibly his last game at Old Trafford, how he would feel. The Egyptian King replied:
“To be fair, when going into the game, I said it could be the last time, but no one has come to discuss the contract with me, so I will play out the final season and wait and see.
“I don’t know which club I’ll play for, but this might be my final season with Liverpool.”
At this moment, Salah is Liverpool’s most valuable player in terms of form and contributions. Future contracts or transfer fees are just hypothetical.
Thanks to Salah, Liverpool is making a dream start even though they’ve recently parted ways with manager Jurgen Klopp.
There has been much talk about Liverpool potentially losing him without any financial gain, but the value of a player like Salah is more evident now than in the future.
Long-term plans are important, but they become meaningless if the player isn’t performing well right now.
Sometimes losing a top player on a free transfer isn’t bad if the club gets 100% of their performance.
This doesn’t mean Salah won’t renew his contract. The former AS Roma player has spoken about new motivation under Arne Slot and the willingness of senior players to join the project.
Alongside Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander – Arnold also have contracts expiring at the end of this season.
Excluding Arnold – who is only 26 – Salah, at 32, and Van Dijk, at 33, bring concerns about age.
Footballers are thought to decline between ages 30 and 35, but world-class stars can extend their peak years.
This is what Salah aims for, and one key factor is the freedom and motivation to give his best.
Whether Liverpool offers a new contract in the future, or Salah wins more titles or simply plays a role in Liverpool’s new era, he still looks very comfortable. A happy Salah is priceless for The Kop right now.
