According to the British press, Arsenal has approached 10 wingers as coach Mikel Arteta seeks to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season.
According to The Independent’s Reading the Game, Arsenal has been searching for a new winger in recent weeks.
Although they have reached out to 10 different players, their identities have not been revealed. Nico Williams of Bilbao was one of the targets, but he has decided to stay with Bilbao for another season and is expected to join Barca in the summer of 2025.
Arsenal is now targeting a less high-profile and more affordable winger to serve as a backup. Arteta wants this player to be ready to play a supporting role similar to what Leandro Trossard is providing at Emirates.
The current Arsenal squad shows a clear shortage of wingers. While Gabriel Martinelli has Trossard to back him up on the left wing, Bukayo Saka has almost no cover on the right.
In theory, Reiss Nelson could play on the right wing, but his performance does not fully reassure Arsenal. If Saka were to get injured, the Gunners would face difficulties on the right flank.
As of summer 2024, Arsenal has successfully signed Riccardo Calafiori and David Raya, who was bought permanently from Brentford after a season on loan. Arsenal is also likely to finalize the acquisition of midfielder Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad.
